ADS Covid-19 Action Plan

The ADS Executive Committee along with an Ad-Hoc Committee it appointed, comprised of the Technical Committee Chairs (Pleasure Driving, Combined Driving, Dressage, and Event Standards) have been working hard to develop a statement about Covid-19 compliance and recognition of ADS competitions.

The situation with regard to Covid-19 awareness,  management and mitigation changes every single day. All of us who have worked on this matter of behalf of the ADS are deeply devoted to the sport of driving and would like nothing more than to be able to return to a normal competition environment. Our Executive Committee and the 4 technical committees will continue to monitor changes daily and as soon as a consensus emerges in support of reduced distancing that would allow for more than one person on a carriage will implement that change joyfully.

Dear ADS Members and Organizers,

We have received many concerned comments from the membership and we continue to evaluate and update this Action Plan while considering member feedback, changing conditions, and industry standards.

We are pleased to inform you that the prohibition against more than one person on a carriage has been deleted from our Covid-19 Protocol. We do expect masks to be worn even when they are not worn in private settings.

March 13, 2020 Letter from ADS President re COVID-19

March 13, 2020

Dear ADS Members,

We join the organizers of the Southern Pines CDE, Black Prong CAC CT & DT, and Windsor Trace CDE and CT in deep disappointment at the notice that they’ve canceled their 2020 ADS-Recognized Events that fall within the next 30 days. We support the organizers’ choices and appreciate their reflection on and evaluation of the safety to the drivers, officials, and volunteers involved in their events. Southern Pines CDE was the location of the ADS North American Preliminary & Intermediate Championships in 2020, and this was to be a big retirement party for the organizers, as well as the location of the ADS Spring Board Meeting (which will now be held via teleconference).

The Board and staff of the ADS are monitoring the situation on the COVID-19 Pandemic as it relates to the safety of our members. The ADS encourages you to stay home if you are sick and to follow regulations put in place by your State and Local Governments.

The ADS recommends that ADS Member Clubs limit large social gatherings and food services at events, restrict attendance to essential personnel, provide stocked handwashing and hand sanitizing facilities, and enact regular cleaning and sanitizing procedures for common areas and restrooms.

Organizers of ADS-Recognized Events, as well as ADS-Member Club Events, should assess the risk based on conditions in their geographic area and make responsible decisions for their drivers, volunteers, officials, and members.

I hope you are able to find time to get outside and enjoy driving.

Sincerely,
Dan
Daniel M. Rosenthal
ADS President

USEF Presidential Modification

 July 20, 2018

 Dear Mr. Nicoll:

Thank you for submitting a Request for a Presidential Modification to the application of DC922.4 on behalf of the USEF Driving Sport Committee. A Presidential Modification is granted in cases of substantial, extraordinary circumstances. When measured against that criterion, it has been determined that your Request meets the standard for a Presidential Modification and is, therefore, approved.

As a result of this Presidential Modification, driving carriages at the Preliminary and Intermediate levels will not be subject to the minimum weight requirements outlined in DC922.4 for the remainder of the 2018 competition year.

In reviewing the Request, it was noted that the Driving Sport Committee has approved a rule change which removes the minimum weight requirement of a driving carriage at the Preliminary and Intermediate level. It was also noted that 2018 is the first year in which driving competitions are offering Preliminary and Intermediate levels. This Presidential Modification is effective immediately and will continue through the effective date of the approved rule change – December 1, 2018.
For more information

Sincerely,
William J. Moroney
USEF Chief Executive Officer

cc:       Murray Kessler, USEF President
Matthew Fine, USEF Chief Compliance Officer
Mike Arnold, American Driving Society President
Danielle Aamodt, USEF Director of Driving
